Canda Six Fortune Enterprise Co. Ltd. is one of the leading importers and distributors of Asian food products from the Pacific Rim and other regions of the world. This is a temporary, 13 month contract position that will cover for a staff member going on maternity leave.

Position Summary:

The Buyer I reports to the Manager – Offshore Procurement. The successful candidate will work closely with sales teams and management on brand sourcing and the successful execution of sourcing and procurement strategies for innovation and product development. The Buyer I is also responsible for source and cost negotiation for the development of all new products, as well as identifying any and all initiatives that will reduce cost, maximize sales and profitability for our business.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate costing with suppliers to meet financial targets including ongoing cost maintenance
  • Work with sales teams and management to prepare detailed analysis and reports to ensure that sourcing delivers anticipated financial benefits
  • Works closely with sales teams to identify market trends and bring forward opportunities for cost effective products, suppliers and sourcing opportunities
  • Overall supplier management: ensuring communication and thorough understanding of company standards/guardrails/legalities and contractual obligations for existing, new and prospective suppliers
  • Continually review our domestic and global vendors including identifying gaps in vendors in order to drive innovation, alternative sources of supply and back up sources of supply

Requirements / Must-Haves:

  • Post-Secondary education with a background in retail, merchandising, buying
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in retail/buying
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, specifically in Excel
  • Strong financial acumen and negotiation skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication (written and verbal), problem solving skills as well as influencing skills
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop strategies to achieve organizational goals
  • Highly organized and has a high degree of attention to detail
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Naturally proactive with a high degree of self-discipline and drive
  • Highly collaborative with the ability to work with and foster great working relationships with various teams in the company

Assets / Nice-to-Haves:

  • Ability to communicate in Mandarin (reading, writing, speaking) is an asset
